The Little Man Learns To Swim. Again. Maybe.

in I Learn the Lessons So You Don't Have To, Mommy-ville Detour

Remember last summer?  When I decided that, despite my child having been born without fins, gills, or flippers, the Little Man was going to be a fish?  Or at least learn to swim like one?

Yeah, neither does the Little Man.

Although, in his defense, his last encounter with water higher than his knee caps was last October, when the Floridian Drill Sergeant turned Snow Bird arrived at the Y and drowned the fun right out of Mommy & Me swim class.  So it’s been a good 9 months since he was last tossed in a body of water larger than our bathtub.  Which, come to think of it, is about half his life span at this point.  So, perhaps, he has a good excuse in not quite remembering….

When our moving company informed us that it would take them 10 days to make the 2 day drive from Small Town, Middle America to Smaller Town, Northeastern America, we decided pack up the Little Man, the Little Miss, Nibbles, my MIL, and enough baby gear to open our own Babys-R-Us and hide out with my family at The Lake.

Ahh…The Lake

We could kick back, relax, and get the kids into the water for some good, old-fashioned dunkings fun.

At least that was the plan.

We may have neglected to consider the fact that, for at least the past month, the Little Man has refused to sit down in his bath.  Absolutely refused.  He stands THE ENTIRE BATH.  It doesn’t matter what temperature the water is, how deep it is, or how may toys we toss in around him.  His butt?  Is NOT coming anywhere near that water.

So you can imagine his enthusiasm when we tried to get him to even put a toe in The Lake.  Trying to coax him into the water was like trying to coax him to eat green vegetables.

And when we did, finally, manage to throw coax him into The Lake, his joy was, well:

Needless to say, I reacted as any mother would when her son displays a growing fear of the water.  I decided that what the Little Man needs – is more water.

And so, as of tomorrow we will be the proud new owners of this:

Sadly, I have discovered that we are Not the proud owners of this:
Or this:
Or even this:
